Choir Recital

                     Choir Recital

Hello Bloggers. Tuesday the 26th of November was the big day. If you have read my old blog about joining the school choir and going for choir rehearsals to other schools you would know that I've been practising for this day for a long time. We were performing at the Town Hall in the city. There were 13 other school choirs that were doing it with us. My school was part of the B side. We had to get to Town Hall at 6:45 and our show started at 7:30. All the time I sat there I kept thinking "Soon I will be out there, in front of a huge crowd and I have to sing 14 songs." The 14 songs that we were singing were:

  • National Anthem
  • Donna Nobis Pacem
  • Eye of the tiger
  • What about us
  • Les Miserable Medley
  • I'll be there for you
  • Phantom of the Opera
  • Ke manuia te aho
  • A te tarakihi
  • Rocking Robin
  • O moon
  • In Winter
  • Choo Choo Chabogie
  • Don't cry for me Argentina.
My favourite was I'll be there for you. The place was amazing and we had a lot of fun. We sang all 14 songs beautifully and I never stopped smiling once. This was an amazing experience and I would recommend you all to join your own choir. This is a life changing experience. Well that's all for today. Check out the photos of town hall. Haiku

                           Haiku

Hello Bloggers. Yesterday on the 21st of November we started something fun for writing. We were supposed to write a Haiku. A Haiku is is a poem that has only three lines. The first line has five syllables. The second line has seven syllables and the last line has five syllables. Since I love Harry Potter so much I decided to make a Haiku about what my personality would be like if I studied at Hogwarts. I made mine in a Google Drawing and added some photos. My house is a Slytherin and my second favourite house is a Ravenclaw so my background is green and blue. We had to highlight the syllables in each word so that we know there are the right amount of syllables in the sentence. On the side is a photo of my Haiku. There is a link on the purple Haiku to get a closer look on my Google Drawing. Well that's it for today. Blog You Later!

Creative fun

                   Creative Fun

Welcome. This week on Monday the 4th of November, the senior syndicate of our school (including me) started a new activity. The teachers had given us nine activities to do and finish by the end of the week. The nine activities were:

  • Origami Frog
  • Making Butter
  • Paper Plane
  • Play dough insect
  • Pavement art
  • Plasticine character
  • Cutting patterns
  • Lego scene
  • Marshmallow maths

At first the teachers put us into groups of eight. They asked us what groups we wanted to be in and we had to put our hand up for which one we wanted. My first activity was Origami frog. I was with one of my friends, Neeve. We did all our activities together but we didn't have time to finish all. We finished everything besides Plasticine character. My favourite activity out of all of these was creating a Lego scene. Me, Neeve and Ama, our other friend, created a house all together and it looked a bit like a Chinese house. We were going to put our Plasticine characters in it. I was going to make a cat, Neeve was going to make a panda and Ama was going to make a squirrel. Here are some photos of our house. Well that's all for today. Blog You Later.

MIndfulness

                     Mindfulness

Hello Bloggers and welcome back. On Wednesday, the 30th of October I went for a one day Mindfulness programme. At first I thought that I was going to be alone because none of my friends were doing this program. I had been chosen for this along with some other people. I soon found out that some people who had been chosen had said no and that my friends Abigail and Chimay were doing it with me. We had to take our shoes off before we stepped onto the mat.

We started by introducing ourselves to each other. Then we did some kinds of breathing. We first learned how to do candle breath in easy pose. Easy pose is when you cross your legs and sit with your hands on your knees. Then we did Balloon breathing. Then we had to buddy up and I was with Abigail. We had to make eye contact with the other person for a long time. I laughed the most. We even made some glitter jars that represented our thoughts, feelings and urges. Later we got to take them home.

At first I thought I would hate Mindfulness but I loved it. Mindfulness is great. I especially enjoyed doing it with my friends. I would recommend you to try it too. It was a great experience. Well that's all for today. Blog You Later!

Futsal

                        Futsal

Hello bloggers. Every term we have a sport that we learn. This term it is Futsal. Futsal is basically indoor football. Our first session was on Wednesday.

We had to pick a ball each and we had some activities. Our instructors's name is Kingsley. We had to dribble. When you dribble you have to kick a ball lightly and make sure that the ball is not out of your reach. Then it got harder. We had to kick the ball around and whenever Kingsley called freeze we would have to freeze with the ball under our foot. Then soon Kingsley added another thing. Kingsley would call out a random number and we would have to get into groups of that many people and we have to take the ball with us without using our hands. If you didn't get into a group of that number or you didn't freeze then you have to do 5 star jumps. Then Kingsley divided us into two groups and then he gave each member of the group a number. Then he would keep the ball in the centre and call out some random number. If you are that number you run to the middle and try and kick the ball in the other teams goal.

In our second session we did the same thing but instead of just freeze and number calling there was a new one. We still had to kick the ball around but then Kingsley would call a body part and we have to stop the ball with that body part. For example if he called nose we would have to stop the ball with our nose. The as the main activity we did something super fun. Again we got divided into two groups. This time there were two instructors. 1 was Kingsley and the other one I don't remember. My group was with Kingsley. Our activity was we had to stand in a circle and Kingsley would stand in the middle. Kingsley would call head or catch and we have to do the opposite of what he says. If he called head then we would have to catch the ball and if he called catch we would have to hit the ball with our head. If you did the wrong one you sit down. We played it two times and the second time I won. So I had to go in the finals and I won that too.

I am really looking forward to more Futsal. You should try it too. I really enjoyed myself. Well that's all for today. Blog you later!

Beach Clean

                          Beach Clean

Hello Bloggers and welcome to my first blog of term 4. On Friday the 27th of October (which is also the last day of school) the seniors in my school went on a Beach Clean. We were going to Waikowhai Bay. Our job was to clean as much of the beach as possible in the time that we had. In my old blog about the Climate Change March, I had mentioned that we had made signs. Before we left for Waikowhai Bay we grabbed those old signs and stood on the sidewalk in front of our school and chanted. Then we walked down to Waikowhai Bay with some teachers and parent helpers.

Once we got there we had to get into groups of three. I was with my friends Abigail and Neeve. I also wanted to be with my other friends Ama, Zoe and Chimay but we could only be in a group of three. Then we had to buddy up with another group so of course we went with our friends. Then we were assigned an adult. I'm not sure who exactly my adult was but I do know that they were the father of one of the girls in my class. Two boys didn't have a group so they were with us. Our adult carried a huge bag for us to put the rubbish in. We walked along the beach picking up plastic. More than plastic we found glass and beer bottles. We found a lot of fishing rods and broken bits of fishing lines everywhere.

As we were picking up rubbish Ama called me over to where she was. She had found a small statue of two Indian gods. She wanted to show it to me because I was also Indian and might know who they are (which I did). One year ago when I had gone to this beach I had lost a statue with two Indian gods. The statue I had lost had a scrape at the bottom and so I looked under the statue and there was a scrape there too. That was the statue I had lost. Ama gave it back to me and for that I was grateful. We spent the rest of the time exploring hidden areas and trying to find rubbish until it was finally time to go back to school. WE walked back and enjoyed the rest of our day.

Rubbish is taking over the world. Please stop throwing here and there and put it in the right place. We all want a clean world to enjoy not a rubbish infected one. Hope this message reaches you and you do the right thing. The rest is in your hands. Well that's all so have a look at the photos below and blog you later.

Enlargement

                      Enlargement

Hello bloggers. This week, for maths we have been working on Enlargement. Enlargement is when you draw something on small squares and then draw the exact same thing on bigger squares. You have to make sure that when you are drawing on the big one that it looks exactly like the small one. We have to make sure that the big one is drawn the way the small one would look if it was enlarged. In Enlargement we had to x2 on the big copy from the small one. Only we had to do x2, you could do times any number you like. Our challenge was to make a face. It didn't matter if it was a human face or an animal face, as long as it was a face it was good enough. I drew a Rabbit along with it's body because I had enough space. I created a brown Rabbit with cute eyes. At first I thought I wasn't going to like this activity but once I started doing it I really enjoyed it. I was a lot of fun. Once we were done drawing we could colour. It was a lovely activity. Here is a photo of my small Rabbit and my big Rabbit. That's all. Blog You Later!

Pillow Day

                     Pillow Day

Hello Bloggers. Yesterday on the 19-9-19 was Pillow Day at our school. We had to bring a pillow and we would be using them all day in class. The teachers had come up with a lot of amazing ideas for Pillow Day. The pillow that I brought was a flipping sequins pillow. It could turn from gold to pink. It was very fun to draw on. We got to sit on our pillows or cushions while we were working.

Our first activity for the day was to design a cover for the pillows in our art books. Our pillows should have a growth mindset quote or message on it and if we wanted we could add a design. My message was " It's our choices that shows what we truly are, far more than out abilities". On one page we had to practise using different fonts. On the other page we had to draw a pillow and write our message or quote on it as our final copy. During maths and our Duffy assembly we got to sit on our pillows.

Once we got our Duffy Books we were given a little buddy from the junior classes and we had to read them their story and share our pillow with them. Me and my friends were not given a buddy as all of them were gone so we got to read our own books and relax on our pillows. Then we played a quiz game called Kahoot. Then we just did some finishing.

Our teachers decided that once we have decided on a final cover for our pillows and then we will make an actual cover for them. We will use fabric paint to paint the words on an then they will be ready to put onto our pillows. There is a photo below of my pillow tat I designed in my art book. Once my pillow is done I will show you all the finished result. Blog You Later!

Maori Gods Art

                 Maori Gods Art

Hello and welcome back. This week was Maori Language Week. We have been focusing on Maori legends. The legend we read was " In The Beginning". It is about Papa, mother earth, Ranginui, father sky, and their 6 sons. The sons are:
Tangaroa, Tane, Tu, Huamia, Rongo and Tawhitimatea. Once we read the story we had to choose a son from the story and we had to draw it the way we would want them to look. We were allowed to change the gender of the god if we wanted to. We could draw them however we liked. We could draw whatever we wanted to draw as long as we add a Maori touch to it at the end. As my god I chose Tangaroa, god of the sea. I changed my god's gender to a girl. I also made her wear a dress that has a ocean print on it. Once we finished our brainstorm in our art books and coloured it, we could do a good copy. Once I am complete I shall show you. Well that's all for today. Blog You Later.

Camp

                              Camp

Hello Bloggers. As you might know the seniors in my school went to Mt Ruapehu for school camp on the 20th of August till the 23rd. Our journey began at Hamilton Gardens where we were in our groups. Each group was given a bunch of papers that had photos of the different gardens on it. The photo didn't tell us which garden that particular photo was from. We had to go around Hamilton Gardens and try and find the right name for each of the photos.

Next we went to the Edmond Hillary Walkway. Over there, there were a lot of different boards that gave us information about a particular thing. Our groups had 8 people in them. We were given 4 pieces of paper in our group of 8 people. The paper would have a photo of a particular board and it would tell you the title of the board. Under the title there were 2 or 3 questions. We had to find that board and then find the answer to the questions written below the title. My group was the first to finish and hand our papers in.

Then we walked down to Otorohanga Playground where we got free time to play. I mostly went on the flying fox with my friends. The park was great but we didn't get to play there long. We had to leave early so we could get to our accommodation, The Crossing.

After the long bus trip we finally reached The Crossing. We settled into our rooms with our roommates and then we all met in the dining room. We got our instructions on what to do then we went to take a shower. Once I finished my shower and Ama and Abigail had finished their shower we got into our pyjamas and I grabbed my UNO. Then Ama, Abigail and me played UNO in the dining room until it was time for bed.

The next day we woke up and got our stuff ready for the day. We were going to be going to the snow that day for skiing and snowboarding. I was skiing. We were allowed to get some money because there was a cafe on the mountain where we could buy hot chips and hot chocolate. First we went tobogganing. I liked going down but I hated going up the magic carpet. I couldn't stand straight on it. I kept on falling. Then we ate our morning tea and I bought my hot chips and a cookie. Then we went on the gondolas with our group. After that we skied and then we got free time in the snow. When we were back at The Crossing we had a shower and then we got free time again. First before free time we ate dinner and dessert - It was amazing food! Such good food that I can't even describe it. Then we got to watch a movie only if we wanted to.

The day after was just the same but we got a lot more free time since it was our last day in the snow. When we got back to The Crossing we ate dinner just the same then we watched another movie. This was my favourite movie. I had watched it before and fell in love with it. We watched
" A series of unfortunate events" . Then we went to bed.

On our way back we went to the hot pools that are at Taupo. We swam freely through the hot water and went on the mini water slide. Mid way through swimming we got out to eat a sausage. After the pools we went to a waterfall called Huka Falls. It is a beautiful place where we took a lot of photos from. Then we had a quick stop at Hamilton Gardens for a toilet break then we finally reached school where all our families were waiting for us.

Overall this was the best time of my life. Camp was a super great experience for me and I hope for others too. I really really enjoyed myself and hope I can go back soon. Check out the photos below to get a glimpse of my camp. Blog You Later!

Before Camp

                    Before Camp

Hello Bloggers and welcome back. Tomorrow on the 20th of August my school is going to Mt Ruapehu for camp. This includes me as well. We will be back on the 23rd of August. Below are my feelings before I head off to camp question by question.

What emotions am I feeling before I go to camp?
I am feeling very excited to go to camp and get to play in the snow since I haven't been in snow since when I was a little girl but I am also very nervous.

What excites me, makes me nervous and worries me?
What excites is that I am going to a new place where I have never been before with my mom and my two best friends. I can play many games like snow ball fighting with them. What makes me nervous is that I am going to have to ski and when I am skiing my mom is not going to be with me. What worries me is also skiing. I am worried that I am going to fall down a lot or crash into someone and hurt them. I am also worried I will get hurt. I have never before in my life skied.

What is the event or place that will push me to my limits?
That place will have to be skiing. I will do my best in skiing but I can't make any promises that I am not going to be worried about it the most of all things.

What will I gain from going to camp?
I will gain many things from going to camp like confidence but the main thing that I will gain is an experience of being away from home and friends that aren't at camp. I will also gain experience of being on the snow and skiing with my friends.

How do I think I will feel after camp?
I think I would be a bit relieved to see my home again and that what terrified me most I had done and had fun doing it. Though I would be a bit sad to leave such a wonderful place.

Those are the things that I am looking forward to.That is all for today. The next blog of mine will be after camp telling you guys how it went. Thank you for reading my blog. Blog You Later.

Litter Blitz

                    Litter Blitz

Hello Bloggers and welcome back to my blog. Today I am going to talk to you about a very big issue. So Wednesday the 24th of July my whole school went on the Litter blitz. In class we were given rubber gloves to wear, a florescent yellow sash and a black badge that said " Be a tidy kiwi ". We had a quick assembly in the hall then broke into groups and walked around the streets with two adults and about 6 children. We walked from our school, down past Hibiscus Place, Quona, Most of Hillsborough, past Waikowhai Intermediate and past dominion road extension. Before leaving each group were also given a huge bag to put the rubbish in. We walked all these streets collecting rubbish and putting them into our bags. I was very surprised to see so much rubbish around me. Some of the items we found were glass bottles, plastic bottles, cardboard, newspaper etc. One of my friends even found twenty dollars on the grass and she gave it to our teacher! We even found a lot of food thrown away. So many people go hungry every month because they have no money and what are we doing? - Throwing food away. So many people say they love animals. Do you love animals? I do though there is so much plastic around us that so many animals are dying. Please don't use plastic in the first place. Please don't throw rubbish on the ground. Please don't fill New Zealand with rubbish. At the end of our blitz we had collected 36 bags of rubbish and the bags were about 1 metre long, there were also 200 kg of rubbish! Have a look at the photos below. Well that's enough for today. Blog You Later.

 Here are the photos!!!

Hip Hop

                       Hip Hop

Hey Bloggers. Welcome back. In our school each term we have different sport or activity. We participate in the activity for about 5 weeks. This Term we did Hip Hop. We had Hip Hop every Wednesday after lunch. Our Hip Hop teacher's name was Miss Millie. We start off with the warm up. You would think our warm up would be just like any other warm up but no. For our warm up we stand in a circle and Miss Millie starts. Miss Millie can do a dance move or a stretch. Once she has done hers she would choose which way the circle would go, clockwise or anticlockwise. Then the person next to Miss Millie would do the same they would choose either a dance move or a stretch and so on.

For the first 3 weeks we did a very fun activity after the warm up. We were put into groups of 6 and they would be the people who were standing beside you in the circle warm up. Then you and your group would make a line and there would be one leader. As soon as Miss Millie starts the music the leader of the  group has to start doing a dance move and walk around the room. The others who are behind the leader would copy the leader and follow her or him around the room. and then when the music stops the person who is behind the leader would switch and become the next leader and the first leader would go to the back. We then learnt some new Hip Hop moves.

In our fourth week we did something a little bit more fun. We were told to get into groups of three. I was with my friends Hosanna and Brittany. Our job was to use our body and make a rhythmic sound. We came up with something brilliant. We stood in a triangle. At first Hosanna was the point of the triangle and she can do any kind of sound pattern she wanted to do. She would do it once then I would do it with her the  second time and then Brittany would join her the third time. Then we would switch. I would be the next point of the triangle. We would repeat the way we have been doing the things and then at the end Hosanna and Brittany would stand on either side of me and point to me sitting on the ground and  then I would do a cool sound pattern that I learnt a long time ago. Then we would perform in front of all of the people in our class and they would do the same.

Due to our busy term, we unfortunately missed about 3 sessions of Hip Hop. In our second to last week of Hip Hop we did something super duper fun. We had to be in pairs or groups of 3. I was with Brittany. We had learned a dance that day, a sitting one. Then in our groups/ pairs we had to make up our dance for the rest of the song. By the time we finished doing our steps it was time for the class to end so our Hip Hop teacher said that next week we can perform these dances for everybody. Since the week after that was our last week at Hip Hop and school we had extra fun. We performed our dances after a quick practice then danced on the other songs that we had learned before. Hip Hop was a great experience for me. I loved it a lot. Well Thank you for reading. Blog You later.

Climate Change March

               Climate Change March

Hello bloggers. So on the 24th of May Friday the Year 5 and 6 students attended the Climate Change March at Aotea Square marching down Queen Street. We made signs in pairs to chant with at the march. I was with Abigail. On the day we were supposed to share one bag our of 2 or three people. We would carry snacks. Ama later joined our group and we used her bag. We took a bus to Aotea Square. We talked all the way there. Then once we reached we walked down to where the march started the whole way chanting " HEY HEY HO HO CLIMATE CHANGE HAS GOT TO GO". We reached our destination and while we were waiting for the march to start we sat down and ate a small snack. The three of us shared our snacks with each other. Some reporters were even interviewing some students from our school.

The March began soon after we arrived. The three of us held hands with each other and the other hand was holding up our sign. We stuck together so we wouldn't lose each other. We were put into groups and us three were with one of the student's mom. We followed our group leader as best we could. We were chanting the whole time. Every big interjection we came across we had to lie down on the road for a couple of minutes. Then we would get up and start marching again. The teachers made all of us wear orange beanies. Even the teachers were wearing them. They made us wear them because in  case we get lost and lose the group we just have to find someone with an orange beanie. The three of us took tuns holding the bag and the sign. There was another chant that we did it was " NO MORE COAL NO MORE OIL KEEP THAT CARBON IN THE SOIL". At 2 o'clock the march ended and we walked to a beautiful park. It was called the MAHUHU KITE RANGI Park. The park had a beautiful pond/waterfall and there were stone benches, there was a big grassy area and many big stones for us to sit on. The park was just in front of Abigail's mom's office so she had been here before. She told us that sometimes ducks come there. We played there for a while and then our bus back to school arrived. We climbed aboard. We talked at the way back too. Once we reached school we got a little bit of play time. Then it was time for us to go home.

It was truly important that we went on the march. It was a really great experience. When there is another march I really hope that you come. It will be great a great way of helping the planet. Climate Change is a really big issue. That's all for now. Blog You Later.

Novel Activity

                  Novel Activity

Hello Bloggers, and welcome back to my blog. Today I am going to tell you about my reading novel activity. In our reading groups, everyone was given a novel to read that we would be doing activities on. My novel was The Secret Of Jelly Mountain - By Des Hunt. We had to read the whole book and then answer some comprehension questions about two or more of the chapters. Our first comprehension question was from chapter 3-4 and the next one was from 8-12.
The first comprehension questions sheet [ that was from 3-4] had 10 question just like the other one but this one had an eleventh activity.  The novel is mainly orientated on Huia being found on Jelly Mountain. So we had to do a  google drawing of facts about the Huia. We had to write 6 facts about the Huia. It was a lot of fun finding several new information about the Huia. In the novel, there was a lot of information about global warming. They told us what global warming is doing to many animals. Many animals are dying. So because of this I really liked this book because Jesse and Jason, the main characters, are trying to stop global warming to the best of their capabilities, and are fighting for the right to live for the animals. The most important theme of this novel would have to be determination because Jesse and Jason were super determined to find a way to get to the top of Jelly Mountain when nobody else could figure it out. They never gave up or lost hope and because of that they finally found a way to the top as a gift for never giving up. Another theme of this novel would be extinct animals. This novel talks a lot about many new and different animals that are extinct or will soon be extinct. Like the Huia and the Tuatara. Below are the links to my work. Click on the purple words to view my work. Below the links are my comprehension question photos. Have a look. Blog You Later.

Choir Rehearsal

                 Choir Rehearsal

Hey Bloggers. Welcome back. Today I am going to tell you about our amazing choir rehearsal. My school walked to Hay Park School. There were seven schools there. The schools there were :

Hay Park Primary
Waikowhai Primary-[us]
River Hills Primary
Northcote Primary
Hillsborough Primary
Glen Eden Primary
Arahui Primary

We all sat in the big hall. Our choir teacher or guider was Mr. Lambert Our performance will be held in November in the Town Hall. We will be singing around 15 songs but have only learnt 7 of them. I would tell you guys the songs we would be singing but to find out you guys will have to come to watch our performance. As we arrived, we got some time to just sit and chat with our friends who were next to us as we would be singing quite a lot and that meant we wouldn't be able to talk to our friends. After we got to talk we sang our first song. It sounded beautiful. Mr. Lambert told us to add some things and to add more power. We did as we were told. We sang about 2 more songs after that and then we got to go outside and play and eat because it was morning tea. I had been to Hay Park School before as that was where the Student Led Toolkits was being held. I showed my friends around the school. Shortly after, we went back inside and sang all of our other songs. We were singing for 4 hours. Then around 12:30pm it was time for us to walk back to our school.

Since the time I heard there was a choir at my school each year I wanted to be in it. I love to sing, it is my passion. Now that I am a Year 6 I can finally be involved. Year 5's can be in it too but last I didn't know when it was and then didn't get a chance to audition. Being in a choir is a really amazing experience. I think being in a choir is a great way to express yourself. I love being in choir and I think you will too. I loved getting to go to a different school and sing songs with other schools and I hope you come and watch us sing in November. Soon, in one of my other blogs, I will make sure to add the date of the performance. Well that's enough for today. Blog you later.

The  Personal Response included :

What I was surprised about.
What I like.
What I didn't like.
What I would change.
What it made me change about.
What I didn't understand.

The article was very interesting. I loved reading it. Here is a LINK to the STUFF article. Click on the word link above to view. Hope you will read it too. I enjoyed this activity a lot. Student led Toolkits

                        Student Led Toolkits

Hey there bloggers. How are you doing? Today I am going to tell you about something so much fun. On Tuesday the 28th of May some students from my school got selected to go to he student led toolkits. All the schools that are in the Ako Hiko cluster get together at a different school each year. This year it was Hay Park School. We went there by some of the teacher's cars. Once we got there we were told the three activities we will be doing and where they will be held. We saw a slide show of names and classes we had to see which slide our name was on.

My first activity was to learn how to create a kahoot. The student led toolkits is called the student led toolkits because other students from all kinds of different schools teach us not any of the teachers. The students leading the kahoot told us how to get there and then what to press to start creating a kahoot. I did as they had told. Then we got to choose a topic anything we like to create a kahoot about. I chose Harry Potter Lines. I love Harry Potter so much that I remember each line by heart. I got time to make half the kahoot but then it was almost time to go to play so we saved out kahoots and bookmarked them. We then got a little time to play the kahoots that the other children had made and had finished them. After that we got to play and eat some snacks for a little time. The school had a awesome bake sale and I had some money so I bought some brownies and some cookies. Then we went back inside and went for the second session.

My second session was Stop! Go! Animation. I went there and we had to be in groups of two or three. I was with Brooklyn and Brittany. The students there showed us how to use stop, go, animation. Then we used an iPad and got onto the app and set the background. Then we used small action figures/ toys to film them. It was a success. It was a lot of fun making this.

My last activity was Google Drawing Art. The students there told us to choose anything that is a cartoon characters it could even be animals. I chose my favourite animal a bunny. They then told us to use the pollyline to trace and draw the animals we did that and it turned out great.  I traced and I added a grassy land once I had finished drawing the bunny. Then I added some carrots and a bowl of water as well as a girl standing in the background near her house with the sun shining bright. It was a fun activity. We then went back to the others and did some prizes then we went on the car and came back to school. It truly was a great experience.

Anti Bullying Letterbox Drop

              Anti-Bullying Letterbox Drop

Hello bloggers. I hope you guys remember my old blog post about the Gumboot Friday letterbox drop, well last week on the 17th of May on Friday we did something quite similar. In the past week we were given some small cardboard T-shirts. We had to write a Anti-Bullying message on them and then decorate and colour them. It was the same as Gumboot Friday but this time we were doing them on a T-shirt and instead of writing feel good messages we were writing Anti-Bullying messages. We had to make at least 3 or 4. It was up to us if we wanted to make more than 3. I made 4. Once we had enough cards to go post them in random letterboxes we were put into groups and were assigned a teacher. I was with Ama again. My assigned teacher was my lovely class teacher Miss Daly. We lined up outside and got some random cards. The card didn't have to be our own. I got one of mine and two others. We walked with our teacher outside our school and went to a street called Quona Avenue. We posted the cards and started our walk. I hoped that the people who got our cards liked them. Once we returned back to our school we sat down on the deck while waiting for all the others to come back. It was a really great experience. I enjoyed this just as much as Gumboot Friday. Well see you next time bloggers.

Fruit and Veggies

                           Fruit and Veggies

Hello Bloggers. A few days ago for our Inquiry we did a really fun activity. Our teachers had told us to wait outside while they set vegetables all around our class rooms. The vegetables were set on pieces of paper with numbers on them. There were 36 of them. We had to be in pairs and go around the class with a piece of paper. We could smell the vegetable or fruit but we couldn't touch them or eat them.  There were 36 boxes on the paper and we had to guess the fruit and vegetable and write what we think it is onto our piece of paper.  There were some pretty weird things so that I had never even  seen in my life. There were stuff like Kiwano, Aubergine, Leak etc.  We had a time limit. Once the time was over we sat down and switched our paper with someone else and the teacher read out the correct things. If the person who's paper we had had gotten it right then we would give them a tick if not then we would leave it blank. Then once we graded the papers we switched them back to we could see what our score was. The highest score was 27 out of 36 by a boy named Atreyu and Ama. Then we got to choose a vegetable or fruit from the ones that were there. Me and my buddy chose figs. Then we each had to make a google drawing about our chosen fruit or vegetable. Some of the things we had to add in the google drawing were: What are they used for? A nice recipe, Where can you find them? Where they grow. There was much more. These activities were really fun and I really enjoyed them. Well see you next time bloggers.

Narritive

                                Narrative

Last term we were very busy writing narratives. We all had to do one. We had to choose a photos from some options we had and then we had to look at the photo and write our stories. I chose a photo of a place from India, my home country. I really had fun writing this because I write and read a lot at home. Overall I think I did pretty well on the narrative because I had a lot of ideas and we used a google doc for writing our narratives and mine was 5 pages long. I especially think I did well because two of my friends read my narrative and said that it was really good and that they didn't want it to stop. They even asked me if I was going to make it into a series book because they wanted me to. I told them yes and now when I have free time at home I write the other part of the books. I really loved doing this activity so this activity for me was a success. The photo I chose to do my story on is on the side. Gumboot Friday and Mental Health

Gumboot Friday and mental health

Last Friday on the 5th Of April it was Gumboot Friday. Gumboot Friday is where
everybody in New Zealand is encouraged to wear Gumboots to raise awareness and
there is also a special charity website for Gumboot Friday where you can donate money.
Gumboot Friday recognises Mental Health. They chose Gumboots to stand for Mental
Health because sometimes your mind feels like it is wading through mud with Negative
feelings. Mental Health is very important. Your Mental Health should always be positive.
Bad Mental Health is when people struggle to even get out of bed and feel like there
is no point in doing anything. If you think that you can’t do anything that is very bad]
Mental Health, so stay positive. Good Mental Health means you feel good about yourself
and your capabilities. Its being healthy on the inside and outside.
In our Senior Syndicate we know that bad Mental Health can have a terrible impact on
people and families, so we made small cards for random people that we have never met
that live near our school. Then we searched up some inspirational quotes and statements
that would make people feel good about themselves and wrote them down on the cards.
All of us made more than one card. Then once we had enough cards for our schools
neighbourhood we split into groups of 8.

Then we were assigned a street close to our school and posted our cards in any random
letter boxes of the houses that we passed. The two quotes that I did were “ Your smile
is like a ray of hope so keep smiling” and “ Someday everything will make perfect sense.
So for now laugh at the confusion, smile through the tears and keep reminding yourself
that everything happens for a reason.” This fabulous idea came from a girl named Neeve.
Some of the students including me were chosen to do a Healthy Puketapapa
Student Questionnaire pamphlet in which we had to write down what is important and
Neeve chose Mental Health. This all was her idea and we did this to uplift other people.
It even relates to our inquiry topic for this year “ HAUORA WELL-BEING”. I think this
is a super great idea. Here are some of the photos of us and some of our cards:

Family Fun Day

                       Family Fun Day

Last week on the 21st of March on a Friday we had our school Community Fun Day. A community Fun Day is where we are in out house groups and do four different activities. I am in the Green group which is called Pukeko. The house groups are:

Pukeko- Green
Kea- Red
Ruru- Blue
Tui- Yellow

I am a little lucky because one of my best friends Ama is in the same group as me. She is in Pukeko. I'm also a little bit unlucky because my other best friend Abigail is in Ruru so she wasn't with us. Pukeko's first activity was a walk down to the Molly Green Park. We walked there in pairs so of course I was with Ama. When we reached there we got divided into three groups. One group went to the basket ball courts. The next group went to the fields and played a beanbag game. The last group  played in the park. We would be in each place for 15 mins then would swap places with the other groups. My first group was the play in the park group. There was a rotating play equipment me and Ama went on and it spun so fast when we were on it that when we got off I fell down. Ama got off it first and then when I tried I lost my balance, jumped off the play equipment, bumped into Ama's face and then fell to the floor laughing. Then I went to the beanbag game. Over there we got partnered up with a junior and we had to get two beanbags each. then we had to throw them in a hula hoop and try and get them inside the hula hoop. Then again it was swap over time. I went to the basket ball court next. Over there I was put in a group three. There were 4 hoops. There were also 4 groups of three. So each group got a hoop and a ball and we ha to get it in the hoop. Once we were done with them we came back together and walked back to the school for out next activity. Our next activity was Wheel Zones. Wheel Zones is where we ride wheels. It was kind of boring because I chased Ama around on Abigail's scooter. Then our next we had our lunch where we also got something from our school bake sale. Then we were up to our second to last activity. It was the swimming pool and the slip n slide. OMG the slide was so big. I was in the pool first with Ama. Then we went to the slip n slide. The only rule was on our first go we have to go alone but on our second go we could choose if we want to go with a friend. So of course I went with Ama. We had the time of our lives. Then we moved on to the last activity of the day. It was the bouncy castle. There was a big one and a small one and Ama and me went on the big one first and we were racing against each other and it was a tie. Then we kept going for a while. Then it was time for us to swap over and we did the something in the smaller one. It was the best day. Here are some of the photos from the day.
